Why a Face Oil Matters
Discover the Best Face Oil for Radiant, Glowing Skin.
Face oils are celebrated for their remarkable ability to revitalise dull, tired skin, transforming it into a glowing, radiant complexion. Derived from nature's finest ingredients—plants and nuts—these oils are rich in vitamins, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids. They deeply nourish skin, enhancing its natural barrier and locking in moisture.
With so much hype, trends, and noise touting face oils as the holy grail of skincare, it can be confusing to make a decision. Fortunately, numerous studies and scientific research can help demystify the subject of face oils and their benefits, providing clarity and confidence in choosing the right products.
What is a face oil?
A nature-based face oil is primarily composed of fixed botanical oils, derived from either plants or nuts. These oils are abundant in fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants, offering significant benefits for the skin. Popular examples include jojoba oil, rosehip oil, almond oil, and hemp seed oil, among others.
Botanical oils have been used in skincare for a long time and are known for their many benefits. Different skin oils have varying effects based on their composition. The effectiveness of oil-based treatments is often linked to their fatty acid content. Many skin problems are caused by a loss or imbalance of skin lipids. To address this, a customized mix of several botanical oils may be needed to keep the skin barrier healthy, help repair and regenerate damaged tissues, and manage immune-related skin issues.(10)
Supporting barrier function?
Water is the most important nutrient for the skin, and keeping moisture trapped within is vital for overall skin health. When your skin barrier is functioning optimally, it is comfortable and elastic. It forms a protective shield that prevents pathogens from entering and moisture from escaping. When your skin barrier becomes compromised, moisture can escape easily, disrupting your skin's normal function. Many skin issues occur due to the loss or imbalance of these essential lipids.
Face oils improve skin health by forming a protective barrier, lock in moisture, providing fatty acids to different skin layers, activating certain skin receptors, or reducing inflammation. The composition of these oils varies, leading to different effects depending on the amounts and types of beneficial componds they contain.

Single oils vs. blended oils
Not all oils are the same; they each contain different levels and compositions of fatty acids.Different fatty acids in botanical oils can affect the skin's barrier function in various ways and can either cause or prevent acne.
According to several studies, you can benefit from the fatty acids in botanical oils with as little as 2% to 10% concentration. While using a single face oil may be effective for addressing specific skin conditions, a blended approach tends to yield better results for overall skin health, which formed the basis for us creating our Holy Face oil and combining the properties of 12 unique botanical oils.

Common Face Oil Myths
5 Situations That Call for Face Oil
1. Daily skin hero.
When life doesn't go as planned, it often shows in your skin. Whether it's due to lack of sleep, or the daily stress of life, your skin can become dry, tight, and dull. A face oil is the perfect way to boost your skincare routine and revitalize your complexion. It is the perfect skin hero when you need a little extra something to get through your day.
If I wake up not quite feeling my best I love to mix in a few drops of face oil into my moisture prior to application making it the perfect skin hero.
2. Boost your sun shield.
A clinical study(1) conducted in 2020 involving 22 women found that using a facial oil made from natural ingredients can help protect the skin against damage caused by UV rays from the sun. UV rays typically cause oxidative stress, which harms skin cells. The natural oils in the facial oil help to reduce this oxidative stress, resulting in healthier and less sun-damaged skin. Although face oils are not a substitute for sunscreen, incorporating them into your skincare routine can provide additional protection agaisnt sun related aging.
3. You need a Glowup
When your skin feels dull and lifeless, adding a face oil to your morning routine can provide the vibrancy and glow you need. For a satin finish, mix a few drops of face oil with your moisturizer before applying it. If you prefer a more intense glow, apply the face oil as an additional layer after moisturizing. Consistent use will make your skin more supple and radiant over time.
4. Winter Saviour
As winter arrives, many of us notice changes in our skin. The cooler weather decreases the skin's natural oil production, which keeps the barrier soft and flexible. Additionally, the cold, dry air increases water evaporation from the skin, stripping away essential hydration. This often results in dry, tight, uncomfortable, and fragile skin during winter. Incorporating a face oil into your routine can help supplement the lack of natural lipids, providing immediate relief to winter-dry skin.

5. Overnight repair
By the end of the day, our skin's lipid barrier can become weakened or depleted. This barrier, made up of natural oils and lipids, is essential for protecting the skin from environmental stress, retaining moisture, and maintaining overall skin health. Incorporating a face oil into your nighttime routine can help replenish and revitalize this barrier, ensuring your skin is refreshed and ready for the morning.

Choosing The Best Face Oil For Your Skin Type
Dry Skin
Everyone with dry skin, including those with mature skin, should consider incorporating a face oil into their routine. This skin type has the greatest flexibility in selecting a face oil, as it can tolerate everything from heavy, occlusive oils to lighter options. However, most individuals with dry skin will likely find that a medium-weight face oil offers the best balance of hydration and comfort.
Combination Skin
For combination skin, which includes both oily and dry areas, a face oil can be highly beneficial. Opt for light to medium-weight, fast-absorbing oils. These oils will effectively hydrate the dry areas while introducing lipids that can help regulate oil production in the oily zones. Over time, this can lead to more balanced lipid production across your entire face, resulting in a more even complexion.
Sensitive Skin
Face oils can greatly benefit sensitive skin by providing essential hydration, soothing irritation, and strengthening the skin barrier. Natural oils like jojoba, and Squalane mimic the skin's sebum, locking in moisture and reducing dryness. Anti-inflammatory oils such as evening primrose and sweet almond calm redness and irritation, while antioxidant-rich oils like rosehip and hemp seed nourish and repair the skin, promoting overall skin health. Additionally, face oils are gentle, making them ideal for sensitive skin. By incorporating a suitable face oil into your skincare routine, you can achieve a more hydrated, balanced, and resilient complexion .
Normal Skin
Face oils offer several benefits for normal skin types, including balanced hydration, nourishment, and protection from environmental stressors. Regular use of face oils can also enhance skin texture, making it smoother and more supple, and their anti-aging properties help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Incorporating a suitable face oil can thus enhance overall skin health and appearance .

Skin Has Never Felt More Comfortable
I am 85 and have been using Oil of Olay from the supermarket for years, mostly out of habit, as it wasn't that great. After trying these new products, my skin has never felt more comfortable. The cream is thicker than what I'm used to, but I only need to apply it once, and it lasts all day without feeling heavy or greasy. Also the milk cleanser, I have never used one before and absolutely love it, especially the smell.
